Scotland: Scots school first in UK to use apps
19.06.2010 A Scottish private school is to be the first in the UK to unveil a smartphone application for parents, staff and pupils.
Loretto School, near Edinburgh, has joined forces with Apps Central Ltd to launch an interactive iPhone app to make it easier for the whole community to keep up-to-date with activities, time-tables and news. The initial launch of the App later this month gives parents the school calendar, a news feed and the ability to tailor the programme’s contents to their children’s extra-curricular activities. A second phase, due in September, will allow users to access websites such as Google Maps to show the venues of sports matches. Peter Hogan, headmaster of Loretto, said: “Schools like Loretto provide a rounded education for their pupils, which gives rise to a full and varied calendar of activities and events each term. This can be challenging to keep up with.” Linda Cessford, chief executive of Apps Central added: “As a working parent, I sometimes found keeping up-to-date with new developments, school calendar additions and changes difficult. “I thought a simple App on my iPhone would be the solution.” Source: The Herald (HeraldScotland) & Loretto School Website Photo from Loretto School Website |
